Saint Joel, an Old Testament prophet who wrote the Book of Joel, ministered to southern Judah, which was in decline due to natural disasters and economic problems. Joel prophesied that God's judgment can be averted through repentance, fasting, and returning to God. His prophecies tell of many signs to precede the Second Coming of the Savior. He foretells the terrible day of the Lord; exhorts sinners to a sincere conversion; and comforts God's people with promises of future blessings under Christ.
