Saint Olav, also known as Olav the Stout, was a fierce young Viking warrior prior to his baptism in Rouen, Normandy, in 1014. After experiencing French Christianity, he returned to Norway and became King in 1015, where he sought to unify and Christianize his kingdom. Following the Danish invasion in 1028, he was exiled to Russia. He returned to Norway and ultimately died in battle in 1030 while attempting to regain the Norwegian throne. Today, his relics are kept in Trondheim, which serves as the destination for the popular "Way to St. Olav" pilgrimage from Oslo. This site continues to be known for miraculous healings.
