Saint Angela of Foligno, known as "the Teacher of Theologians," was an Italian Secular Franciscan mystic born into a wealthy and socially prominent family. At the age of 40, she experienced a profound conversion through the sacrament of confession and dedicated herself to contemplating Christ crucified during Eucharistic adoration and prayer. Following the subsequent deaths of her husband and children, she sold her possessions to join the Secular Franciscan order. She spent the rest of her life committed to works of charity, specifically assisting the sick and the poor.
